Koletic Designs of Campbellville, Ont., has launched a newly expanded range of unique, natural-edged wood furniture. Custom dining tables are available in highly figured woods in lengths of up to 14 feet. Designer John Koletic combines highly patterned natural edged wood with austere elements of modern design and traditional hand crafted joinery. Each piece of furniture (including dining, end, sofa and coffee tables) has a unique one of a kind wood top set on custom designed bases. The result: a warm yet edgy modern design that can stand alone as an outstanding piece of artwork or complement a timeless room setting with just the right amount of warmth, practicality and appeal.
Every piece of furniture is individually designed, handcrafted and signed by Koletic. Dependent on world market availability, he uses a variety of salvaged woods including black poplar burl, walnut, buckeye burl, redwood, rosewood, box elder as well as exotic rosewoods, mahoganies and ebony. Tung oil enhances and preserves the wood’s natural colour and beauty, and a topcoat of lacquer, wax or oil is buffed to a warm lustre.
Burl wood has been used in furniture and décor items for over 2000 years in prized decorative tops for boxes. It became popular in the late 19th century when craftsmen in Britain used it in fine furniture.

John Koletic of Koletic Designs is an award-winning Canadian designer and craftsman whose ability to utilize the natural edge of burl wood is his signature – and forte. With distinctive vision and artistic ability, he enhances the natural beauty of solid burl wood and sometimes marries it to metal, glass or granite… the highly figured grain patterns of exotic root burl and the cold lustre of burnished metals.
